IPTV on Android TV and Google TV (2026): Install From the Play Store, Add the Playlist From Your Phone

Android TV is the open TV platform: a real app store, real codecs, and a remote you can pair with a phone. It runs on the Chromecast with Google TV, on Sony, TCL, Philips and Hisense TVs, on the Xiaomi and Nvidia boxes, and on the boxes sold with IPTV subscriptions. If your screen shows a Google-style home with app rows, this is the guide. Two minutes to install, then the part that matters: never typing a playlist on the remote.

What you need

• An Android TV or Google TV device signed in to a Google account, with the Play Store present.
• Your playlist details: an M3U URL or the three Xtream Codes details, in your provider's email.
• Optionally, your phone with IPTV Guard and the playlist already added, to skip typing on the TV.

If you are not sure the subscription is valid, test it first: thirty seconds, from outside your network.

1. Install from the Play Store

On the TV, open the Play Store, search "IPTV Guard", install. It is the same listing as on Android phones; the store picks the TV version by itself. No developer options, no unknown sources, no code.

If your box has no Play Store, it is one of the uncertified boxes: install with the Downloader app and the code 6856704, the steps are in the Fire TV Stick guide and are identical on Android.

2. Open the app and pair with your phone

On first launch the TV shows a short code and a QR code. On your phone, in IPTV Guard, open Settings, Account, "Pair a TV", and scan or type the code. The TV signs in to your account and fetches the playlist you added on the phone, with a real keyboard. Favorites and resume points come along.

Without a phone, sign in with your email on the TV and add the playlist by hand: server, username and password for Xtream Codes, or the M3U URL. The remote's on-screen keyboard works; a USB keyboard works better.

3. Watch

The Live tab lists channels by category with the current program. The D-pad moves, the center button plays. Inside the player, up and down switch channels, left and right open the guide and the options: audio tracks, subtitles, picture fit, and the other quality variants of the channel when the provider offers them.

Movies and series have their own tabs and resume where you left off, on any screen of the account.

4. The two settings that matter

Network. A TV or box on Wi-Fi across the flat is the first cause of stuttering live video. If the device has an Ethernet port, use it; if it is a Chromecast, the official Ethernet adapter exists for a reason. The buffering guide explains the rest.

Picture mode. Motion smoothing (called MotionFlow, TruMotion, Motion Estimation, depending on the brand) turns football into a video game and adds delay. Turn it off for the input the app runs on, or pick the Game or Filmmaker picture mode.

Codecs and cheap boxes

This is where Android TV varies most. A Chromecast with Google TV, a Sony TV or an Nvidia box decode HEVC and 4K without effort. Many boxes sold with subscriptions use older chips that decode H.264 fine and choke on HEVC 10-bit or 4K: the picture stays black with sound, or stutters. The fix is not a setting, it is picking the HD variant of the channel, as the black screen guide explains.

Sound follows the same logic: entry-level boxes do not decode AC3 or E-AC3 and stay silent on premium channels. Another audio track, or another variant of the channel, brings the sound back.

Updates

Apps from the Play Store update on their own. The app also tells you inside when a new version is available. If you installed with Downloader, updates are manual: same code, same steps, settings and playlist kept.

When it does not work

Nothing loads: the causes are upstream of the TV, expired subscription, server that changed address, connection taken by another device. The 8-step diagnosis starts with the checker.
