Apple TV is one of the best devices for IPTV: a real processor, clean 4K HDR output, a remote that responds, and no interface ads. The one historical obstacle was input: entering a forty-character URL with the Siri Remote puts everyone off. This guide fixes that, and everything else.

Your subscription details come from your provider, usually in the email you received when you subscribed. If you are not sure they are valid, test the playlist before you start: in thirty seconds you will know whether the server responds, how many channels it holds and when the subscription expires.
1. Install the player from the App Store
On the Apple TV, open the App Store, search for "IPTV Guard" and install. The app is free and provides no content: it plays the playlist you give it, the way a browser displays a website.
2. Create an account, or sign in
On first launch, the app offers to create an account or sign in. The account is what lets your playlist, favorites and resume points follow you from one screen to another. If you already have the app on iPhone, sign in with the same account and jump to step 4.
3. Add the playlist
Two paths, depending on what your provider gave you.
Xtream Codes. Choose "Xtream Codes", enter the server address (it starts with http:// and often ends with a port number), the username and the password. The app connects and loads channels, movies and series within seconds.
M3U URL. Choose "M3U" and paste the full URL. Channels play; the TV guide, though, needs Xtream Codes, so if your provider gives both, prefer Xtream.
On a remote, prefer the path in step 4: it avoids the on-screen keyboard entirely.
4. Pair with your phone instead of typing
This is the step that changes everything. On the Apple TV, open the pairing screen: a short code and a QR appear. On the iPhone, in IPTV Guard, go to My Space, then "Pair a TV", and scan the QR or enter the code. The TV connects to your account and fetches your playlist exactly as you entered it on the phone, with a real keyboard and paste.
The code expires after five minutes: if it has lapsed, reopen the pairing screen to get a new one.
5. Check that everything is there
Open the Live tab and start a channel. Three things to check in the first minute:
- The picture starts within ten seconds. Beyond that, the stream or the network has a problem, see our guide on buffering and cuts.
- The TV guide shows the current program. If it is empty, give it a few minutes, then read the guide on the empty TV guide.
- Movies and series show up in their tabs. With an Xtream subscription they are sorted by category and enriched with posters and summaries.
Picture and sound settings
In the player, the options button gives access to audio tracks and subtitles, picture fit, and quality when a channel exists in several versions. If your TV is 4K, leave the Apple TV on "Match Content" in its video settings: it then switches frame rate and dynamic range to match the stream.
Common errors
"Unable to load stream" on every channel. The subscription has expired, or the server address has changed. Test the playlist with the checker: it shows the expiry date and the server status.
Some channels work, others do not. That is normal: a subscription with several thousand channels always has a few dozen out of service. It is not an Apple TV problem.
The stream cuts when someone else is watching. Your subscription probably allows a single connection at a time. Details in the guide on the connection limit.
What Apple TV does best
Once set up, the Apple TV becomes the main screen and the phone its extended remote: you search for a movie on the iPhone, you find it under "Resume" on the TV. Match reminders arrive on the phone, and the match starts on the TV. That is the point of an account rather than one setup per device.

Frequently asked questions
Which Apple TV models are compatible?
Apple TV HD (2015) and every Apple TV 4K (2017, 2021, 2022). The App Store is required, so 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TVs are out.
Do I need a jailbreak or a profile?
No. An IPTV player is a regular App Store app. Nothing to bypass, nothing to install outside the store.
M3U or Xtream Codes on Apple TV?
Both work. Xtream Codes keeps the channel list and the guide updated on its own, which is the most comfortable on a TV. If your provider only gives an M3U URL, it works too.
The EPG is empty after setup, is that normal?

Can I use the same playlist on Apple TV and iPhone?
