The Fire TV Stick has become the default IPTV box: cheap, plugged behind any TV, and a remote that is enough. The only detour is the installation: the app is not taken from the Amazon store but through Downloader, the Fire TV's standard tool for installing an application from its publisher's site. Three minutes, and nothing but the remote.
What you need
- A Fire TV, any of them: Stick Lite, Stick HD, Stick 4K, 4K Max, or Fire TV Cube. The app is the same for all, 32 and 64-bit.
- An internet connection on the Fire TV.
- Your phone with IPTV Guard installed and your playlist added, if you want to skip typing on the remote at step 6. Otherwise, typing on the remote works too.
1. Install Downloader
On the Fire TV home screen, open search (magnifier or the remote's microphone) and type Downloader. Install the orange app by AFTVnews, free. It is the most downloaded application in the Amazon store, precisely for what we are about to do.
2. Allow Downloader to install apps
This is the only step that touches the Fire TV's settings, and Amazon hides the menu.
- Go to Settings, then My Fire TV, then About.
- Select the first line, the device name ("Fire TV Stick 4K" for instance), and press seven times on the remote's centre button. A "You are now a developer" message appears.
- Go back to My Fire TV: a Developer options line has appeared. Open it.
- Enter Install unknown apps and turn on Downloader. On older Fire TVs, it is a single switch named Apps from unknown sources: turn it on.
The permission only concerns Downloader. Nothing else on the Fire TV is changed.
3. Enter code 6856704
Open Downloader. Accept the permissions it asks for the first time (file access, that is where it stores what it downloads). In the field in the centre of the screen, type 6856704 and confirm.
The code is a shortcut to iptvguard.app/tv, the app's official address for Fire TV. You can also type the address in full instead of the code: it is the same thing.
4. Install
The download takes one to two minutes depending on the connection. At the end, an Android install screen appears: choose Install, then Open or Done. Downloader then offers to delete the downloaded file: accept, it is no longer needed and the Fire TV has little space.
If the install screen only offers "OK" with no "Open", the download was interrupted: repeat step 3.
5. Open IPTV Guard
The app is in Apps (hold the remote's Home button to get there quickly), at the end of the list. You can move it to the front: select it, remote's menu button, Move.
On opening, the app offers to sign in. Two ways, the next step details the fastest.
6. Add the playlist from your phone
On the TV, the app shows a short code and a QR code. On the phone, in IPTV Guard, open Settings, Account, Pair a TV, then scan the QR or type the code. The TV connects to your account, and the playlist you already added on the phone appears on the screen. Nothing to type on the remote, no credentials to enter again.

7. Updates
Apps installed through Downloader do not update on their own. IPTV Guard warns you inside the app when a new version exists. Then repeat steps 3 and 4 with the same code, 6856704, which never changes: the new version installs over the old one, with your settings and playlist.
Tips for the Fire TV
- Cable if possible. An Ethernet adapter for Fire TV costs about fifteen euros and removes the first cause of cuts.
- HD variants on a Stick Lite or HD. Those models top out at 1080p and their chip is modest: if FHD channels stutter or stay black, take the HD versions, the black screen guide explains why.
- Free up space. Sticks have little storage; remove unused apps (Settings, Applications, Manage installed applications).
- Sleep mode. A Fire TV that dozes off in the middle of a match is the screensaver setting: Settings, Preferences, Screensaver, raise the delay.

Frequently asked questions
Why go through Downloader and not the Amazon store?
IPTV Guard is not yet distributed on the Amazon Appstore. Downloader is the standard way on Fire TV to install an app from its official site: it is the most downloaded app in the store, precisely for that.
Is it risky to allow unknown apps?
The permission only applies to Downloader, not to the whole system, and you choose what Downloader installs. Code 6856704 points to iptvguard.app, nothing else.
Which Fire TV should I choose?
All of them work. The Stick 4K Max is the most comfortable: more memory, Wi-Fi 6, and 4K decoding. The Stick Lite does the job up to 1080p.
How do I update the app?
The app warns you when a new version exists. Open Downloader, enter the same code 6856704, install: the new version replaces the old one, settings and playlist kept.
The install says 'OK' but the app does not appear.
Restart the Fire TV (Settings, My Fire TV, Restart) and look in Apps, at the very bottom of the list. If it is still not there, reinstall with the code: the file may have been cut during download.
